Why Is A Hot Bath So Relaxing?

Perhaps nothing else in this world can beat the relaxation a warm bath offers. However, have you ever wondered why it feels so good in the first place?

A soak in warm water deliberately raises your body temperature, which opens up the gate for more health-related benefits. For instance, a warmer body temperature facilitates better blood and lymph circulation, as well as detoxification, increased metabolism and calmer nervous system—and those are just the tip of the iceberg.

When your body temperature rises, you sweat. In turn, the sweat is facilitates the cleansing of toxins from your body by bringing them to the surface of the skin. Before, it was doubted whether sweating does detoxify (sweat was only believed to be the body’s ‘thermostat’ of sorts aimed to regulate bodily temperature), but recent research have now shown proof confirming this process. A groundbreaking study in 2011 found that sweating actually dispels toxic elements which have accumulated in the body, and that more toxins are, in fact, eliminated through sweat rather than urine.

Lastly, the warmer temperature also leads to the production of endorphins, which are otherwise known as ‘feel good’ hormones. A rush of endorphins not only makes you feel better—deeper inside, endorphins help strengthen your immune system improve sleep, and ease sore muscles, as well as other physical aches.

So if you feel like dipping into a hot tub right now, then by all means do so. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
